FREQUENTLY ASKED

About BeatCombo

What is BeatCombo?
BeatCombo is a free online music game (also known as a rhythm game or VSRG) that runs entirely in your web browser. It is in the same family as O2Jam, osu!mania, Beatmania, and DJMAX — notes scroll down 7 lanes, and you tap them in time with the music using S D F Space J K L on your keyboard.
Is BeatCombo free? Do I need to sign up?
Yes, completely free. You can browse the library and play any chart without signing in. You only need an account if you want to upload your own charts, save scores, or appear on the leaderboards.
What audio formats does the chart generator support?
MP3, OGG, WAV, and M4A. Files are processed locally in your browser — they never leave your machine until you choose to publish a chart to the community library.
How are the charts auto-generated?
When you drop an audio file in the editor, BeatCombo runs onset detection and BPM tracking on the waveform, then converts the detected hits into notes across 7 lanes — calibrated for three difficulty levels.
Can I play on a phone or tablet?
Touch input is not fully supported yet. BeatCombo is designed for a keyboard, so a laptop or desktop is recommended. Mobile-friendly controls are on the roadmap.
Is BeatCombo like O2Jam Online?
BeatCombo is heavily inspired by O2Jam — same 7-key vertical-scrolling music game format, same hold notes, same combo system. The big difference: BeatCombo runs entirely in your browser, with no installer, patcher, or client to manage. We are an independent project and are not affiliated with O2Jam, Konami, or any other publisher — we use our own engine and community-uploaded tracks.
